Engine Division

The Engines division manufactures and distributes a wide range of diesel and natural gas engines as well as corresponding components for use in the automotive, industrial and power generation sectors. Cummins engines have a displacement of 2.8 to 95 liters and a power range of 74 to 5,500 horsepower. They are widely used in road vehicles such as heavy trucks, medium trucks, buses, RVs, light commercial vehicles and pickup trucks, as well as construction machinery, mining equipment, agricultural Off-highway fields such as machinery, ships and railways.

Cummins engines are not only well-known in the industry for their first-class reliability, durability and fuel economy, but also meet the increasingly stringent automotive emissions (US EPA2010, Euro IV and V), off-highway motor equipment emissions (Tier 4 interim/Stage IIIB) and marine engine emissions (IMO standards of the International Maritime Organization) have been in the leading position in the industry.

Since the late 1990s, the power range of Cummins engine products has been greatly expanded, and the number of product platforms has doubled.

Power System Division

In 2016, Cummins merged its power business and high-horsepower business to form the Power System Division. The newly formed Power Systems business focuses on high-power engines that power electric power, mining equipment, marine machinery, oil and gas fields, and railways.

Cummins power business products are used for standby power, distributed power generation and auxiliary power on mobile devices, which can meet customers' multi-faceted power needs. The segment also provides full-service and power solutions including long-term operation and maintenance agreements, turnkey projects, and temporary power supplies. The product lines include diesel and alternative fuel generating sets (2.5 kW ~ 2.7 MW), alternators (0.6 KVA ~ 30,000 KVA), engines for units, control systems, transfer switches (40 amps ~ 3,000 amps) and switchgear, etc., Widely used in office buildings, hospitals, factories, municipalities, power plants, universities, recreational vehicles, yachts and household power supplies.

Cummins high-horsepower business products are widely used in mines, marine machinery, oil and gas fields, railways and construction machinery. The product line includes diesel engines (from 19 liters to 95 liters), gas engines (from 5.9 liters to 72 liters), rig generator sets as well as dual fuel engines and components.

 

Distribution Division

Through the Cummins global distribution service system, a specially trained service team provides 7*24 hours of pure parts supply, customer engineering and expert support services to global users. Cummins' service network covers more than 190 countries and regions around the world, with more than 600 wholly-owned and independent distribution agencies and more than 7,600 distribution outlets around the world. Cummins' wholly-owned distribution organization network covers major key markets around the world, including China, India, Japan, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and South Africa.

In China, the network of the distribution division covers 1 major national parts distribution center (Shanghai), 6 major regional parts distribution centers (Shenyang, Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu), 19 regional distribution service centers, and more than 2,000 Cummins sole proprietorship and joint venture authorized dealer.


Parts Division

The following five business units make up the Cummins Components Division.

Cummins Filtration System (formerly Fleetguard): diesel and gas engine air, fuel, hydraulic oil and lubricating oil filters, and various chemical additives.

Cummins Turbocharging Technology System (formerly Holset): produces a full range of turbochargers and related products for diesel and natural gas engines above three liters, mainly used in the global commercial vehicle and industrial markets.

Cummins emission treatment system: medium-heavy diesel engine exhaust catalytic purification system and related products, the business mainly includes supporting new models of OEMs and transforming vehicles in use. Its main products include integrated catalytic purification systems, special parts for aftertreatment systems, and system integration services for engine manufacturers.

Eaton Cummins: Provide high-quality automatic transmission technology, and serve global users with the best fuel economy, product performance, and attendance guarantee.

 

New Energy Power Division

The new energy power business department includes electric power and hydrogen energy technology and products. It was established in 2019 by the merger of the former electric power business department and hydrogen energy business.

The electric power business designs and manufactures electric power technologies and products, and the application scenarios include road use (ferry vehicles, school buses, medium-sized trucks, urban logistics vehicles, etc.) and non-road applications (construction machinery, terminal trailers, cargo transportation equipment, etc.). So far, the business has provided complete electric power solutions for 7 application scenarios in 6 major markets around the world.

The hydrogen energy and power business designs and manufactures industrial and commercial hydrogen production, hydrogen fuel cells, and megawatt-level energy storage solutions, which are widely used in proton exchange membranes and alkaline hydrogen production equipment for industrial operations and fuel stations, as Transportation provides hydrogen fuel cells, which are used in independent electric power plant fuel cells, key power, uninterrupted power supply system assembly, and "electricity-to-gas" products, etc.


Rooted in China to create brilliant

The historical relationship between Cummins and China can be traced back to the 1940s more than half a century ago. On March 11, 1941, US President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Lend-Lease Act, providing wartime assistance to 38 countries, including China. The "Lend-Lease" military aid to China includes river defense patrol boats and military trucks equipped with Cummins engines.

At the end of 1944, a Chongqing company sent a letter to Cummins, seeking to establish business contacts and localize the production of Cummins engines in China. Elvin Miller, the general manager of Cummins Engines at the time, expressed his strong interest in this in his reply , I hope Cummins can build a factory in China after the Sino-Japanese War. Due to well-known reasons, Mr. Miller's idea can only wait until the 1970s thirty years later, with the gradual relaxation of Sino-US relations, before it is expected to become a reality.

Cummins and its related subsidiaries have invested more than US$1 billion in China. As a foreign investor in China’s diesel engine industry, Cummins’ business relationship with China began in 1975, when Mr. Erwin Miller, then chairman of Cummins, visited Beijing for the first time , becoming an American entrepreneur who came to China earlier to seek business cooperation. In 1979, when China and the United States established diplomatic relations and China opened up to the outside world, the first Cummins office in China was established in Beijing.

Cummins has carried out localized engine production in China very early. In 1981, Chongqing Engine Factory began licensed production of Cummins engines. In 1995, Cummins' first Chinese joint venture engine factory was established. In 1997, Cummins officially established a regional headquarters in China, and Cummins (China) Investment Co., Ltd. was established in Beijing to coordinate and manage Cummins' investment and business development in East Asia. So far, Cummins has a total of 30 institutions in China, including 16 joint ventures, with more than 10,000 employees, producing engines, generator sets, alternators, filtration systems, turbocharging systems, emission treatment systems, fuel systems and other products. Cummins' service network in China includes 19 regional service centers and more than 2,000 authorized distributors of sole proprietorships and joint ventures in China.

Cummins has long insisted on forming strategic alliances with large Chinese enterprises to achieve common development. As an early foreign-funded diesel engine company that came to China for localized production, Cummins has been leading commercial vehicle and equipment manufacturing in China, including Dongfeng Motor, Shaanxi Automobile Group, Beiqi Foton, JAC, Liugong, and Chongqing Electromechanical. The company has set up six engine joint venture factories, and 15 of the 24 Cummins engine series have been produced locally in China.

Cummins is also the first foreign-funded diesel engine company to set up a R&D center in China. In August 2006, the engine technology R&D center jointly established by Cummins and Dongfeng was officially opened in Wuhan, Hubei. After more than 40 years of development, China has become one of the largest and fastest growing overseas markets for Cummins in the world.
